Most influential Christians…

Lon | January 20, 2006

The church report’s released their annual top fifty again…

Although it always piques my interest and there are plenty of people i respect on this list, it always distrubs me to think that there are followers of Jesus spending their time doing this.

And how does Dr. Phil keep making this list?

I have to admit I looked. It struck me

I have to admit I looked. It struck me after reading two bios why they were selected… that the Church Report is missing the point… They were selected based on apparent reach (media perspective).

The most INFLUENTIAL christians are probably ones that we’ve never heard of… I just heard that the largest national church is in China!!! Approx 100 million but due to the nation’s size, that still means at least 90% of people are not saved. Someone over there is having a tremendous influence.

What are they measuring? Is this how Christ would measure?

BTW, I am always appalled at Christian resources that keep mentioning Brian McLaren as some Christian expert. I have some friends that go to his church and I’m concerned that the church (maybe not McLaren) is misleading them. Experience is relevant but experience does not equal truth. There is nothing that he says that is patently scary or unbiblical but the fruit is rotten (from my perspective)…

I agree, they miss the point. supposedly their readers

I agree, they miss the point. supposedly their readers voted on it… but still, I agree the list is skewed.

and I have no doubt Christ (if he had made a list) would have a very different list.

I don't think it's possible to create an accurate list

I don’t think it’s possible to create an accurate list of most influential Christians and I certainly don’t think that compiling it is the best use of time! Having said, that I do quite like TD Jakes! I’ve listened to various teaching series he’s done and read a number of his books, and he has a lot of good stuff to say. The way he does church is very different from I’d do it, but I definitely appreciate much of what he’s doing.

I've heard mixed reactions on TD Jakes, maybe i'll take

I’ve heard mixed reactions on TD Jakes, maybe i’ll take a look more into things for myself…
