First week of seminary…

Lon | September 14, 2006

After four years of taking part-time classes, I’ve finally taken a much anticipated step of entering full-time studies. It was difficult integrating with the community as strictly a night student because those classes by nature were always over-sized with predominantly other students who worked full-time like I did and were in and out with our other obligations.

I’m just starting to scratch the surface of the community here. I know I’m forgetting people, but shout outs to Sharon, Grace, Troy, Adam, Carolyn, Bernard, Amy, Yuling, Morgan, Peter, Jake, Jeremy, Joel, Brian, Natalie, James, Ivan, Anita, Leo, Selwyn, and Jason. I’m glad we were able to connect, if even for a moment.

On a more disappointing note. My first attempt at starting a church planting and kingdom advancing student network completely flopped.

I’m going to need to process this some more, learn from it, and try again.

On the brighter side, my classes have been phenomenal so far. I’m taking five this term (some thing that’s ridiculous, but with the baby on the way, I’d like to get as much as I can done to lighten the load later). My classes are:

Practice & Theology of Ministry
Youth at Risk
Old Testament Theology & History
Preaching
Leadership Development

I’ve been hammering away at the more academic core and language classes all these years so I can finally take some of these more practical sessions that I’ve been waiting for. Content for all of them look fantastic and the profs are excellent as well.

Leaving my job this summer I have to admit I teared up a bit. It was a life I loved, that I know I will never be returning to. At the same time, I felt that God had poured something new, something extra, into my spirit as I made the transition. Walking through the halls of school now, I still shudder at the tremendous blessing and privilege of having the hand of God guiding my life.

Who is this King of Glory, that pursues me with His love…

Lon, those classes look great! If you come across

Dave Kludt | September 14, 2006

Lon, those classes look great! If you come across any great readings for any of them, definitely share them (especially OT and Leadership Dev)! I’m always looking for recommendations for books/authors to check out.

I still have a week and a half before thing start here at Fuller…I’m stoked to get started on classes. Glad to hear that you’re enjoying your first week. Best of luck!

very interesting, how quickly you are connecting to people there.

very interesting, how quickly you are connecting to people there. i also thought it was interesting that you are an ENFP…so am i. out of curiousity, where are you going to seminary?

Hey Dave, I'll definitely be sharing books to come.

Lon | September 14, 2006

Hey Dave, I’ll definitely be sharing books to come. Is this your first year at Fuller?

joel, I’ve got a horrible memory, so I’ve been very intentional about trying to remember names… still don’t get them all though.

ENFP’s rock don’t they? (i think that’s the std. ENFP response though). And I’ll at Tyndale Seminary… I think it’s the largest in Canada.

Yup, first year...so I'm excited for the newness of it

Dave Kludt | September 14, 2006

Yup, first year…so I’m excited for the newness of it all. Looking forward to hearing about how your classes go.

And, ENFP’s do rock…I’ve taken a couple of the fake online tests over the last couple of years, and I think I’ve transitioned from an INFP to an ENFP…but I think the intro/extro-version is just kind of a pendulum for me depending on what I’m doing in life. Good times.

yeah as far as infp/enfp, being introverted only helps you

joelpno81 | September 14, 2006

yeah as far as infp/enfp, being introverted only helps you hide the fact that you’re an artistic/over emotional weirdo. it doesn’t take it away. hehe. but yes, enfp’s do rock. fo sho!

lon-i too have a horrible memory. being from jacksonville, i’m not too familiar with tyndale but i know tyndale publishing. my pastor is doing a doctorate at bethel (erwin mcmanus is his lead instructor…pretty sweet actually), and i’m thinking of doing their distance program for M.A.T.L….thinking but not sure yet.

i'd love to hear more about your kingdom advancing student

joshallan | September 14, 2006

i’d love to hear more about your kingdom advancing student network idea… did you blog about that in the past?

That's interesting Dave, i've flipped from INFP and ENFP from

Lon | September 15, 2006

That’s interesting Dave, i’ve flipped from INFP and ENFP from time to time as well!

Joel, yeah, there’s tyndale publishing, but it’s not the same. That would be just ridiculous if Erwin was an instructor at our school! Was there anything in particular you’d like to do with the education afterwards?

And Josh, thanks for dropping by. yup blogged about it a while back.
