Stellar head tilt

btw, just a side rant. Why do Mom’s have the market on parenting? Going through parenting websites and flipping through parenting books, it’s always assumed that I’m a woman.

I get email updates from baby center, after registering that I was male, telling me about what’s going on with your breasts, or how to get your husband more involved.

And then there’s the awkwardness when I take Stellar to the children’s play area in Chapters Bookstore. There’s usually a crowd of random women laughing it up as they watch over their kids. I walk in and have a seat, and there’s a sudden silence. Shh.. there’s a male here.

Of course, as I walk about, more often than not, I usually overhear them ridiculing their husbands.

I know there’s nothing like a mother’s love, but plenty of dad’s got game too!

mmm… Sushi…

Lon | May 26, 2008

Speaking of pork and beans in the last post… this weekend I finally got the stomach flu… my wife and daughter had it last week and it seems to have impacted about a dozen children and adults in our circles.

I was feeling really good about myself being the last man standing and having an iron clad stomach till it went full throttle over the weekend.

I puked six times. I had sushi with raw salmon as my last meal before it all, but the really cool thing is… as I vomited, I noticed the salmon came out cooked!

cool eh?!

Weddings…

Lon |

Wedding season has begun… I think we’ve got a dozen or so this year. I was a groomsman this past weekend. It’s always an honor to be a part of the celebrations up close. Congrats to Brian & Ina!

Stellar was completely confused what the fuss was about…

Words Stellar knows…

Lon | May 16, 2008

For Mother’s day I drenched Stellar’s feet in paint and made a little print along with words she knows right now (yvz and I might be the only ones who understand half the words though)

Of course breakfast in bed was a part of the day as well. More food shots to follow soon.

Perfect Nipples…

Lon | May 12, 2008

Ever since bottles were being recalled with the BPA chemical leeching controversy, I’ve been hunting for a new bottle for Stellar.

Part of the problem is that, well, it’s a little late for her, she’s seventeen months old already. The other problem is that she’s still on the bottle, and won’t really drink milk without it.

She’s been using the playtex advance bottles since birth. It’s got BPA in it, and to make things worse, the chemicals come out further with wear and tear and heating. We’ve been doing plenty of that.

So I head out and get the born-free bottles which appear to be the premium line of glass bottles. She doesn’t drink from it at all. I figure it’s the starter nipple, so I go out and get an advanced fast-flow nipple. She drinks a couple ounces and it takes forever. So that doesn’t work.

Then I try the evenflow glass bottles, that doesn’t work either. Then I discover that playtex makes another plastic bottle with liners that are BPA free. I buy the playtex drop-in system - only for them to come with starter slow-flow nipples again. Stellar of course doesn’t like that I guess, and I head back out to buy a fast-flow nipple again. She drinks 4-6 ounces out of her usual 8.

Still not quite ideal. Why don’t they make these nipples interchangeable?

Anyhow, thanks for listening to the rant.

Here are some of the nipples we’ve purchased…
